Introduction

Welcome to the Choreographic Lab online.

The Choreographic Lab offers a unique practice-centred research environment for movement based researchers. Founded in 1996 it has been funded regularly by Arts Council England and The University of Northampton. The Choreographic Lab provides a forum in which choreographic issues, creative methodologies, and individual goals can be examined, explored and experienced. The Lab aims to provide a challenging and supportive environment supporting innovation and complex enquiry. Directed by Dr. Jane Bacon and Dr. Vida Midgelow (dance makers and researchers, based at The University of Northampton), The Choreographic Lab provides participants the time, space and resources to research movement practices. Importantly it also provides a venue for sharing practice, discussion and reflection.

Previous projects have included Dance, history and the body (dates) and xxxxx (dates). Most recently the Lab ran a professional research and development project entitled Articulating Dance (2005-2008). Articulating Dance focuses on enabling modes of enquiry in which creative processes can be articulated and creating methods and environments in which critical feedback given/received.

Researchers can engage with the Choreographic Lab as project members and also through our public events / publications – for example written texts, conference presentations, workshops, new works and through this web site – which aim to share our work the the wider arts community.
